Stanthorpe Art Prize 2018 Terms and Conditions

  1. Stanthorpe Art Gallery Society Inc (SAGS) organises the Stanthorpe Art Prize 2018. It is open to all artists, locally, nationally and internationally.   There is no limit on the number of works that may be entered, but we do not have the facilities to exhibit video works.
  2. All works must have been created after June 2016.
  3. The perimeter of a two dimensional entry (including frame) must not exceed 6 metres in total.  Maximum weight allowed is 15kg.   Diptychs and triptychs must either be entered as a single work and comply with this rule or entered as separate works.  Works on paper or canvas must be sent framed and fitted with D-rings, placed 100mm from top of work, ready for hanging. Works not correctly fitted will not be exhibited. D-rings are not available from gallery. A stretched canvas is considered framed.
  4. Three dimensional work must not exceed 15kg. The piece should not exceed 50 cm in any dimension OR maximum volume of 0.125 m3.  Please use this volume calculator if you are not sure if your work fits these requirements.
  5. If on receiving the work in the Gallery it is found that the work does not comply with these rules SAGS reserves the right not to exhibit the work.
  6. All works must be labelled on the back with artist’s name and title of the work if 2D, or on the underside if 3D.
  7. Entries AND entry fees must be received by midnight of 4 April 2018. No late entries will be accepted.
  8. The entry fees are $50 for one entry, $90 for two entries, and $120 for three entries. Any more than three entries are charged at $30 each.   No refund will be given if the work is not selected for exhibition.  The work will not be judged if an entry fee has not been received in respect of that work.
  9. SAGS does not carry out any judging of works submitted. This is done by the judges.  The judges’ decision will be final and no correspondence will be entered into.  The selection of finalists is based on the images you supply and selection of winners takes place by the judges in person in the days just before the Opening Event.
  10. Work selected for finalists will be exhibited in the Gallery. All work must be for sale.  SAGS will deduct commission at 33.33% from the sale price.  Payment will be made to the artists after the end of the exhibition when SAGS has received payment for the work in question.
  11. The most outstanding work of the Stanthorpe Art Prize 2018 will receive $25,000. In addition the Judges will award one 2D and one 3D work a Significant Work award of $5,000 each. Other awards include the $1,000 Elaine Burton award in memory of Margaret Burton, for a Local Artist, (resident in the Southern Downs Regional Council or Tenterfield Shire Council areas); the $500 Volunteers Choice award; a $500 Public Choice award.  All awards will announced on Opening Night with the exception of Public Choice award. The Public Choice award will be announced when the exhibition closes.

  13. Artists selected as finalists will allow their works to be reproduced by print and digital media in the advertising and promotion of the Stanthorpe Art Prize, the Stanthorpe Regional Art Gallery and the Southern Downs Regional Council Art Collection.
  14. The artist is responsible for paying all freight to and from the Stanthorpe Regional Art Gallery.
  15. Collection of works: Exhibits may not be taken until the end of Stanthorpe Art Prize 2018 Exhibition. If a sale is conditional on the purchaser taking the work with them, this clause may be relaxed at the discretion of SAGS.  Collection of unsold work either in person or by carrier may be made from 21 to 24 July 2018, between 9am and 5pm.  Where an artist has arranged return of works via carrier or post, SAGS will follow the artist’s instructions as shown on entry form.  Works not collected by 31 August 2018 will become the property of the Stanthorpe Art Gallery Society Inc and it reserves the right to utilise the work as it sees fit.  The Stanthorpe Art Gallery Society Inc. will not be responsible for any loss or damage, however caused.   Insurance in transit is the total responsibility of the artist.
